What is GSM?

GSM is a mobile telephony standard introduced in the early 1990s by the European Telecommunications Standard Institute.

First launched in Finland in 1991, GSM soon became universally adopted in Europe, and then worldwide. GSM currently accounts for 90% of the world’s mobile market, which makes it the default mobile standard.
