Infobip Shift, Infobip’s very own developer-focused tech conference which will take place in Zadar, Croatia in less than two months, has expanded its lineup.
Luis Velasco, a Forward Deployed Engineer for OpenAI, will be one of the speakers at Infobip Shift this year. His talk will focus on AI agents and the future of software development, making his appearance on the Shift stage the first time someone from OpenAI has held a talk in Croatia.
OpenAI is one of the most important AI companies today, and the one that can be attributed with inventing the way we interact with LLM’s today. With ChatGPT being its most-known product, OpenAI is also behind Codex, an AI-powered agentic coding tool, which is aimed directly at engineers.
Luis told us that he feels like the next step for engineers is the usage of AI agents in a more meaningful way. In his opinion, agents are a natural next step because they have the ability to do things, instead of just informing a human about the task. The difference is, for Luis, that one answers, and the other one does things.
Agents are getting more popular now because they’re, in layman’s terms, smart for longer, among other things. Luis explained that models can now work for hours rather than lose context after one response, which makes them much more valuable. Add to that the creation of “standard agent harnesses”, such as Codex, which help immensely:
A harness such as Codex provides the execution environment: tools, a workspace, context management, permissions, sandboxing, and the loop for acting, observing, and correcting. Crucially, the model is post-trained to operate in that harness, and the harness is tuned for the model. That combination makes it much better at real tasks than simply placing a general chatbot behind a collection of tools.
More to come in Zadar
We could talk more about models, agents and their implications here, but that would leave us with no reason to talk with Luis in person at Infobip Shift 2026.
Have in mind that Luis Velasco is just one of 100 engineers and leaders who will host talks, participate in panel discussions and keynote speeches in Zadar this September. Experts from nVidia, Netflix, AWS, Hugging Face and Atlassian are already announced, and the list of speakers might even expand more in the days ahead of the event.
So, don’t wait – secure your tickets and join us at Infobip Shift 2026.
