Email validation checks
When validating an address, the system runs multiple checks beyond confirming whether a mailbox exists. These checks help you identify risky or low-quality addresses that can harm deliverability, such as syntax errors, role-based accounts, disposable domains, or catch-all configurations.
Filtering these out ensures cleaner lists, reduces bounce rates, and protects your sender reputation.
Syntax
Syntax checks identify misspelled or incorrectly formatted email addresses (for example, typing @gmial.com instead of @gmail.com). Infobip validation detects these errors and suggests valid alternatives, helping you recover usable addresses and reduce waste.
Recipient roles
Role-based addresses, such as help@ or info@, are linked to teams or departments rather than individual users. These addresses rarely engage with marketing or transactional content and often trigger complaints or unsubscribes. Validation flags these addresses so you can remove them and focus on real recipients.
Disposable domains
Disposable or temporary email addresses are often used for one-off registrations or spam. Sending to these addresses results in low engagement and high bounce rates once they expire. The system detects disposable domains so you can exclude them before launching campaigns.
Catch-all detection
Some mail servers are configured to accept every address on their domain, even if the specific mailbox does not exist. While this prevents lost messages, it makes validation difficult and is often abused by spammers.
The system cannot confirm individual addresses on catch-all domains but will detect and return the catch-all configuration so you can make informed sending decisions.
Best practice:
Regularly validate your contact lists and remove addresses flagged by these checks to maintain high deliverability and protect your sender reputation.
