Bring your own IP (BYOIP)
Bring your own IP (BYOIP) lets you send email from an IPv4 prefix that your organization owns. Infobip announces the prefix through its network (autonomous system AS43009), and your email is sent from your own IP addresses through Infobip.
BYOIP is one of three IP options for email:
- Shared IPs: Provided and fully managed by Infobip.
- Dedicated IPs: Provisioned by Infobip and assigned only to you. See Purchase and manage dedicated IPs.
- BYOIP: An IP prefix that your organization owns, announced through Infobip.
To start using BYOIP, contact Support or your Infobip account manager.
When to use BYOIP
Consider BYOIP if:
- You already own an IP prefix with an established sender reputation that you want to keep.
- You have compliance or contractual requirements to send from IP addresses registered to your organization.
Requirements and limitations
Review the following before you begin:
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| IP version | Only IPv4 prefixes are supported. IPv6 is not supported. |
| Minimum prefix size | Your prefix must be at least a /24 (256 IP addresses). |
| Maintenance window | Moving traffic from your current provider to Infobip without interruption is not supported. Plan a maintenance window for the cutover. |
| Lead time | Infobip needs at least 2 weeks after receiving your documents to prepare the announcement. |
Prerequisites
Make sure that the following are in place before you contact Infobip:
| Prerequisite | Details |
|---|---|
| IP prefix | An IPv4 prefix of at least /24, registered with your Regional Internet Registry (RIR): AFRINIC, APNIC, ARIN, LACNIC, or RIPE NCC. |
| Registry records | Valid records for your prefix in the RIR database, including the organization record used to generate the Letter of Authorization (LOA). |
| Routing authorization | A route object and a Route Origin Authorization (ROA) that authorize AS43009 to announce your prefix. |
| Letter of Authorization (LOA) | A document signed by an authorized representative of your organization that authorizes Infobip to announce your prefix to its upstream providers. |
Set up BYOIP
To set up BYOIP:
- Authorize AS43009: In your RIR portal, update the route object for your prefix and create a ROA so that both authorize AS43009 as the origin. If your internet provider assigned you the prefix, ask them to make these updates.
- Prepare the LOA: Prepare the LOA on your company letterhead and have an authorized representative sign it. Your Infobip account team can tell you which details to include.
- Share your details and agree on a date: Send the signed LOA, your IP prefix, and confirmation that the routing authorization is in place to your Infobip account team. Then agree on a date for Infobip to start announcing your prefix, at least 2 weeks after Infobip receives your documents.
- Set up reverse DNS: Each sending IP address needs a reverse DNS (PTR) record that points to a hostname in your domain. Without these records, receiving mail servers might reject your email. Delegate reverse DNS to Infobip, or manage the records with your own DNS provider. Agree on the option with your Infobip account team at the start of onboarding. Infobip verifies the reverse DNS setup before the first send.
- Remove the previous route object: After the cutover is complete, remove any route object for your prefix that authorizes a provider other than Infobip.
Contact your Infobip account team if you need help at any stage.
