SMS is a text-only message of up to 160 characters, while MMS has a higher character count and allows you to send images, video and audio.  

While all smartphones can receive MMS messages today, not everyone has MMS enabled as part of their cellular plan or in their phone’s settings. Receiving MMS also requires an internet connection.
