Infobip Data Reveals Record Cyber Week Communications Interactions

Total interactions grew 41%, from 8.2 billion in 2023 to 11.6 billion in 2024.

Vodnjan, Croatia – 05 December 2024 – Global communications platform Infobip has reported record-breaking communications interactions during Cyber Week, underscoring the rising importance of Rich Communication Services (RCS) and conversational experiences. The platform recorded 11.6 billion communications interactions between Friday, 29 November, and Monday, 2 December, representing a 41% increase compared to last year.

The data highlights a growing preference for conversational experiences, where customers can seamlessly complete entire journeys — from browsing to purchasing — on a single channel. This year, SMS, email, and WhatsApp together accounted for 5.5 billion interactions. Notably, email interactions saw a substantial 94% increase compared to 2023. As anticipated by Infobip, RCS interactions also rose significantly, solidifying its role as a key channel for retailers globally. During Cyber Week, RCS interactions increased by an impressive 349% compared to the previous year.

The data further revealed a notable increase in interactions on Saturday, 30 November, and Sunday, 1 December, with over 5.1 billion interactions recorded up from 3 billion during the same period in 2023. This trend highlights the growing efforts of businesses and brands to engage cost-conscious consumers beyond Black Friday and Cyber Monday alone.

Our data confirms our predictions that RCS would become a critical channel for businesses and brands this year as they sought to deliver rich, personal and conversational experiences for their customers. As our data also shows, consumers are interested in shopping during the entire week and month of November and not just on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, with a 70% increase in interactions on Saturday and Sunday this year compared to last. Moreover, our data shows that Infobip helped businesses and brands complete successful and prompt consumer journeys and commercial transactions without fail.”

New data reveals growth of Black Friday conversational customer communications

Record year-on-year growth in customer communications interactions on Infobip’s platform

Vodnjan, Croatia – 02 December 2024 – New data from global communications platform Infobip shows customers prefer conversational experiences on the day of Black Friday, driven by rich channels such as RCS. Infobip recorded new levels of total customer communications interactions on its platform this year, with 3.4bn interactions on the day of Black Friday, which represents a 26% increase when compared to last year. From the total number of interactions, the company identified 1.8bn coming from messaging interactions on its platform, up from 1.7bn last year.

Infobip’s analysis reveals SMS, E-mail and WhatsApp are the three most preferred channels on Black Friday, recording more than 1.6bn interactions during the day. This Infobip’s messaging analysis reinforces the company largest messaging platform worldwide, and its reliability for brands during shopping season.

Rich communication channels such as RCS, have recorded significant growth this year, as brands seek convenient and conversational channels that enable end-to-end customer journeys. This year, RCS interactions on Black Friday increased 17% compared to a typical day in November and increased 388% compared to last year. Infobip also reveals that, in this year’s Black Friday, Retail & eCommerce and Finance industries are between the top 5 sectors which generated interactions in the company’s platform, presenting increases of 42% and 36%, respectively, when compared to last year.

As predicted, Infobip’s data reveals that, Black Friday sales extended across the entire month of November. Interactions across the whole month were higher than last year as brands sought to attract consumers looking for discounts pre-Christmas.

Rich Communication Services (RCS) have emerged as a significant channel for shoppers this Black Friday. The increase is driven by consumers seeking conversational experiences with brands and businesses seeking to provide end-to-end journeys for their customers in one channel. Moreover, brands’ focus on hyper-personalization has helped drive conversational customer experiences and, we expect, will have boosted sales. Our research also shows the traditional Black Friday discount days now typically stretch across November, with a big spike in interactions across the whole month as retailers and eCommerce firms seek more cost-conscious consumers this year.”

Infobip forecasts growth in online sales this Black Friday

Infobip predicts record ‘shopping month’ as discounts spread across November
Conversational customer experiences to boost engagement and drive sales this year

Vodnjan, Croatia, 12 November 2024 – Global communications platform Infobip forecasts more than $10 billion in online sales in the US this Black Friday based on predicted messaging volumes. Infobip expects SMS interactions on its platform on Black Friday to increase by 25% this year, up from 1.3bn in 2023 to nearly 1.7bn. Following the market movement and consumers’ shopping behaviour, the company forecasts Black Friday online sales across the US to increase from $9.8 billion in 2023 to $10.5 billion in November.

Infobip forecasts a 7% increase in Black Friday online sales in 2024, following a similar increase from 2022 to 2023 when sales grew from $9.1 billion to $9.8 billion. As the largest SMS provider in the US and one of the main SMS vendors with a global traffic offering, the company expects global SMS interactions on its platform on Black Friday to be 120% higher than a normal day in November as brands seek sales.

In Europe, based on a survey data, Infobip forecasts that total spend for Black Friday and Cyber Monday will reach €7.425 billion, with Black Friday contributing €4.3 billion and Cyber Monday accounting for €3.125 billion. Infobip also predicts while both the US and Europe show a trend toward more cautious spending, the US is likely to see a higher volume of big-ticket purchases, with 14% of US survey respondents saying they are willing to spend more than $1,000 on Black Friday, compared to only 4 to 8% of respondents in Europe.

Infobip has also identified that the volume of messages is directly correlated to overall market sales during Black Friday & Cyber Monday. According to the company’s latest global messaging trends report, of 473 billion messaging interactions, 137% came from mobile application messaging, whether for marketing, support or commerce purposes.

The firm also expects rich conversational communications channels to increase significantly this year. The firm predicts global Rich Communication Services (RCS) interactions to grow 7.5 times this year. Infobip also forecasts that WhatsApp interactions worldwide will grow by nearly two-thirds.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping events are no longer just about one weekend. Instead, our data shows they are starting earlier and extending further. We now see a ‘shopping month’ as deals are spread across November. Retailers and eCommerce firms hope to attract cost-conscious consumers waiting for the best deals and discounts, driven by economic impacts which makes customers seek for better pricing and offers. We predict that rich messaging – Rich Communication Services (RCS) – will emerge as an essential channel for shoppers following its adoption by Apple. We expect retailers to focus on hyper-personalization to drive a more conversational customer experience and boost sales.”

Infobip recognized as RCS Business Messaging Leader by Juniper Research

Vodnjan, Croatia, 31 October 2024 – Global cloud communications platform Infobip has been named number one among Established Leaders in RCS Business Messaging by analyst firm Juniper Research. In Juniper Research’s RCS Business Messaging Competitor Leaderboard 2024, Infobip has been recognized for its superior product and positioning, and enhanced capacity and capability.

Juniper Research scores vendors on a range of factors including but not limited to their geographical reach, depth of partnerships, RCS value-added services, notable RCS deployments and innovation. The analyst ranked Infobip as the number one provider from 17 vendors because of its strong presence in the global messaging sector and its RCS deployments in regions where the analyst believes growth will occur.

Infobip is the first communications platform in America to have an active RCS platform connected with telecom providers. It connects to telco Verizon and will soon add further carriers.

Juniper Research notes Infobip offers value-added services that support its messaging portfolio, including its conversational AI, People CDP, and CPaaS X solutions. “Its RCS MaaP layer for telecoms is particularly strong, and alongside its wide-spread relationships with mobile operators globally, this will support the growth of RCS business messaging on a large scale,” notes Juniper Research.

RCS is the next SMS and provides a rich experience natively available on consumers’ phones. With Apple now supporting RCS, it has universal availability. As a result, RCS Business Messaging users and traffic will grow over the next five years. As pioneers in global omnichannel communications, we lead the market with innovative solutions, as our ranking in Juniper’s RCS Business Messaging Leaderboard demonstrates.”

Silvio Kutić

CEO at Infobip

Infobip introduced its RCS Business Messaging Solution to enable Mobile Network Operators and enterprises to create memorable customer experiences with rich conversational messages. New report aligns with international GRI standards as Infobip evolves its approach to ESG reporting

Vodnjan, Croatia, 29 October 2024 – Global communications platform Infobip has published its annual Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report. Adopting the latest market benchmarks and leading practices, the 2023 report aligns with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) in preparation for the evolving landscape of sustainability reporting with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

Supported by Anthesis, an external sustainability consultancy, Infobip’s 2023 ESG report introduces four critical pillars: powering the ecosystem, protecting the environment, supporting life chances, and investing in our people. These are supported by sound governance, as a cross-cutting principle across Infobip’s ESG report.

Powering the ecosystem

Infobip is at the forefront of developing new technologies, ideas, and innovative products and services to make digital interactions more efficient and accessible. In 2023, Infobip received recognition for its achievements as Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) Leader in the Omdia Universe, Gartner® Magic Quadrant™, and IDC MarketScape reports. With a vision to power the entire ecosystem, Infobip also provided startups with up to $60,000 of credits and organized a Startup Tribe event where firms had the opportunity to pitch ideas to more than 10,000 attendees.

Protecting the environment

In 2023, Infobip aligned with global best practices in carbon management and reporting. Infobip is committed to setting a carbon target with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) by 2025 and has adopted the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) guidelines. The company also developed a global environmental policy, which helps raise awareness of such issues inside the business and across the supply chain while minimizing its environmental footprint.

Supporting life chances

Infobip is making a meaningful impact in communities worldwide. The firm donated nearly €165,000 and over 170 laptops, monitors, and other equipment to support more than 100 projects. Our Social Impact Program reflects our deep understanding of the complex challenges facing communities worldwide and combines financial support with volunteering and targeted initiatives. These efforts included environmental initiatives such as tree planting and support for botanical gardens.

Investing in our people

Infobip established an employee-led Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) task force to ensure that these issues play a prominent role in the business. Infobip also launched a global training program on DE&I topics, with over 3,165 attendees worldwide, to guarantee that all employees feel safe and respected. In 2023, over 11% of employees worldwide volunteered more than 800 hours, showing a deep-rooted dedication to community engagement across various regions. This included over 170 managers volunteering in the Vodnjan area, alongside contributions from internal organizations like the Solidarna Foundation and international organizations such as the Red Cross.

Sound governance

Alongside Infobip’s four pillars, transparency, integrity, and respect underpin Infobip’s strong governance in all business operations. In 2023, Infobip carried out a materiality assessment to identify critical reporting and strategic issues. In the coming year, the assessment will be updated in line with the Double Materiality requirements outlined in the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).

Infobip’s ESG policies and achievements are going from strength to strength. We are working hard to create a lasting impact beyond our operations. As the market-leading communications platform, we are dedicated to nurturing a more inclusive and sustainability-driven ecosystem.”

New research reveals the growing significance of RCS messaging

Vodnjan, Croatia, 09 October 2024 – A new whitepaper commissioned by global communications platform Infobip shows Rich Communication Services (RCS) traffic will quadruple over the next five years. Data from tech analyst Omdia shows RCS Application to Person (A2P) and Person to Person (P2P) traffic will increase from 1.5 trillion messages this year to more than 6 trillion messages in 2029. As a result, A2P RCS will generate revenues of $4.2 billion by 2029.

RCS is the next iteration of SMS, enabling consumers and businesses to send and receive rich messages via a data connection or Wi-Fi using the standard SMS inbox. Following Apple’s adoption of the telco messaging service in its latest iOS 18 update, Omdia expects RCS to have a cross-platform reach of an estimated 2.5 billion monthly active users by end-2024.

The research shows that the Americas and Asia & Oceania will be the primary drivers of A2P RCS traffic and revenue over the coming years:

RegionRevenue 2024Revenue 2029Traffic 2024Traffic 2029
Asia & Oceania$169m$2.2bn5.6bn64bn
Americas$113m$1.5bn4.7bn54bn
Europe$22m$324m800m11bn

Charlotte Palfrey, Senior Analyst, Advanced Messaging and Communications at Omdia, said: “RCS offers significant benefits for enterprises and telcos. Enterprises should leverage Gen AI to enhance RCS experiences, making campaigns more personalized, engaging and effective in driving conversion. At the same time, telcos must work with the messaging ecosystem to raise RCS awareness among enterprises and consumers. Additionally, telcos should utilize RCS internally for marketing and customer care functions to demonstrate RCS’s capabilities and benefits.”

RCS has many benefits, and with the Apple upgrade, it now has universal availability. Consumers do not need to download a chat app to send and receive photos or videos. Meanwhile, enterprises can take consumers through the entire customer journey from initial marketing pitch to purchase and support. This is also a significant opportunity for telcos to seize the benefits of RCS Business Messaging and deliver rich conversational messaging for customers.”

From Boomers to Zoomers: how retailers and eCommerce firms can boost sales and loyalty

New Infobip research reveals generational shopping preferences ahead of Black Friday

Vodnjan, Croatia, 26 September 2024 – New research from global communication platform Infobip highlights how different generations want to communicate with businesses and brands ahead of Black Friday. When at least 86% of all generations expect targeted and relevant communications, according to Infobip’s research, retailers need a personalized approach for each generation of shoppers.

Black Friday is the start of the Christmas shopping season. Millions of consumers search for deals online, providing retailers with a growing opportunity to increase sales and strengthen brand presence. Even a 5% increase in customer retention can boost profits by more than 25%, according to management consultancy Bain & Company.

However, creating an appropriate omnichannel strategy to communicate with consumers across four generations can be challenging. Get it wrong and brands may lose sales or even loyal customers. Infobip’s Generational Messaging Trends Report reveals the communication preferences of each generation:

Baby boomers: are less accepting of repetitive content where, 40% want more varied communications versus 8% of Gen Z, but favor chat apps more than Gen X (68% compared to 57%)
Generation X: 73% of Gen X prefer to receive product and service updates compared with just 55% of Gen Z
Millennials: younger generations are more open to new communication channels, where 60% of millennials are happy to make purchases through chatbots
Generation Z: 83% expect a brand to understand them as individuals, and 65% want a two-way dialogue with the brands they buy from

Our research shows that most shoppers, no matter their age, want brands to engage with them like with a friend through conversational channels and say it will increase their loyalty. However, brands must get customer communications right to enhance loyalty and grow sales. That’s why Infobip has analyzed what each generation prefers and published a new report and a playbook to help retailers and ecommerce firms make the most of the shopping season.”
