Infobip’s Messaging Trends Report highlights the impact of Apple’s RCS support and the growing dominance of conversational messaging

Vodnjan, Croatia, March 4, 2025 – Global cloud communications platform Infobip has released its latest Messaging Trends Report, which reveals that the adoption of Rich Communication Services (RCS) messaging has skyrocketed, transforming the customer experience landscape.  

Infobip analyzed more than 530 billion interactions on its platform between businesses and consumers in 2024 to identify the latest global business messaging trends. The data suggests Apple’s support for RCS, following its iOS 18 update in late 2024, contributed to a fivefold increase in global RCS traffic, with North America alone seeing a 14x surge.  

Businesses worldwide have embraced the channel for highly engaging, two-way customer interactions. Infobip’s data shows a 500% increase in RCS usage year-on-year, with brands leveraging it alongside SMS for a seamless customer journey.  

RCS is taking off because it works. The branded and verified experience reduces hesitation, while rich visuals capture attention and drive engagement. In A/B tests, RCS rich cards delivered up to 70% higher conversion rates than MMS. More significantly, RCS has driven conversion rates two to three times higher, and sometimes even ten times higher, than standard marketing channels.”

As brands refine their customer engagement strategies, WhatsApp has emerged as a significant channel for conversational marketing, where the channel’s growth has surpassed the growth of SMS and email. Infobip recorded a 41% increase in brands using WhatsApp for marketing, driven by new features enabling seamless purchases within a single chat. The platform also saw significant growth in other chat apps like Telegram, Line, and Viber. 

Overall, Infobip saw a 30% increase in the number of brands orchestrating conversational marketing interactions with their customers on its platform. 

AI adoption has also increased, according to data from Infobip’s AI Hub. AI-powered chatbots and automation are being widely adopted, particularly in finance and insurance, where security and compliance are paramount. Businesses increasingly use AI for personalized interactions, fraud prevention, and real-time customer support.

Infobip demonstrates how Network APIs are driving innovation at MWC

Vodnjan, Croatia, February 27, 2025 – At this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), global cloud communications platform Infobip is tapping into pioneering themes and activities spearheaded by the mobile industry association GSMA, highlighting how Network APIs drive innovation.   

Following several successful partnerships launching Camara-compliant Network APIs under the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, Infobip is at the forefront of helping telcos make the most of Network APIs. For instance, Infobip recently helped a major Brazilian operator to implement Number Verify (NV) and Silent Mobile Verification (SMV). This helps speed up verification while increasing conversion because there is less chance of user error. The new process also reduces the risks of fraud. The telecommunications company enhanced its onboarding process by integrating SMV into its engagement app, boosting conversion rates from 80% (using SMS-based OTP) to over 99%, ensuring seamless user validation for nearly 1.5 million monthly users. 

In addition, Infobip has recently announced partnerships with telco innovators such as Nokia, telco operators like Deutsche Telekom, and with joint venture Aduna. On CPaaS, Infobip has announced a partnership with NTT Com Online to launch NTT CPaaS in Japan.

The GSMA Open Gateway initiative is playing a crucial role in unifying the telecommunications ecosystem behind common Telco APIs combined with CPaaS APIs. Since launching at MWC Barcelona two years ago, 72 mobile operator groups, representing 284 networks and almost 80% of mobile connections across the world have signed up. 

Henry Calvert, Head of Networks at GSMA, said: “The GSMA Open Gateway initiative provides a consistent API framework for all operators, removing fragmentation and making it easier for developers and enterprises to integrate telco capabilities at scale. To expose the full capabilities that mobile networks can offer, it’s vital that the telco industry and wider ecosystem proactively engage with enterprises to ensure they meet the real needs markets require.”

Infobip and Bayobab partner to transform SMS services in Africa 

Bayobab, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MTN Group, has signed a five-year deal with Infobip. The new collaboration simplifies messaging for brands with advanced technology.

Bayobab will use Infobip’s Communication Platform as a Service (CPaaS) Customer Modules and Routing management to handle campaign management, APIs, and analytics and deliver SMS across Africa and beyond. Bayobab will also access Infobip’s security solutions such as a best-in-class firewall to ensure the safety of their mobile subscribers. With this partnership, Bayobab is streamlining its SMS connectivity and reducing associated administrative costs.  

Bayobab is a leading connectivity and infrastructure provider in Africa which operates extensively across the continent, boasting over 115,000 km of fiber cable. Bayobab provides access to and manages, directly or indirectly, 24 subsea cables, along with over 70 Points of Presence (PoPs) across Africa, Europe, and Asia.   

Traditionally, brands had to connect individually with each Mobile Network Operator (MNO) within the MTN Group to terminate SMS. With Infobip’s CPaaS enablement platform modules, Bayobab simplifies this process so that brands and aggregators can now securely connect once and terminate traffic to MTN and other operators.
