TEDx: Inspiring innovation and change

People of exceptional passion, motivation and achievement took the floor at this Saturday’s TEDx event in Pula, Croatia. Shaped around the topic “Istria yesterday, today and tomorrow”, TEDx revealed authentic projects, stories and individuals of great strength, approaching things from a different perspective.

What inspires change in a region or community? How to be a teacher in the digital age, with paradigms of knowledge and communication shifting every 5 years? Why working on a team and communicating efficiently is becoming the foundation of a successful individual?

Talks by innovators, authors, managers, athletes, and artists offered glimpses into the entrepreneurial, forward-thinking spirit that drives positive change.

The TEDx Program aims to help communities, organisations and individuals to spark conversation and connection through local TED-like experiences. A combination of live presentations and TED Talks videos, the Istrian edition was prepared by students, activists Larisa and Roberta Kontosic, Sandi Bozac, Denis Taletovic, Marijana Tadic, and Amel Hadzipasic.

Concept-wise, they said they wanted to reveal historical and present perspectives and business potential of the magical Istrian peninsula, the region where they live and work. Infobip was proud to support the event as a golden sponsor, alongside worthy regional institutions and companies Medea, Salvela, Fusio, Brioni, Pula Film Festival, Pula University Student Council, Luce association, and Valli cinema.

A2P monetisation, fraud prevention and messaging ecosystem opportunities are some of the topics of GSMA events taking place in October around the world. As long-time GSMA partners, we are sponsoring, exhibiting and speaking in three of the meetings.

Hosted by Claro, the BARG Latin America Meeting is taking place 6-7 October in Antigua, Guatemala. Our VP Massimo Cristini’s speech will focus on Business-as-a-Service – a new model enabling MNOs to run a technically superb and profitable A2P SMS business, with no investment or risk. The model eliminates total cost of ownership and enables fastest possible time to market, in the rapidly changing environment that prompt telecoms to change their messaging business strategy and approach.

Our telecoms team will also be there to share industry insight and discuss business opportunities – you can arrange to meet them by clicking here.

About the same time, 6-8 October, GSMA’s Fraud and Security Group will meet in Casablanca, Morocco. With messaging security in spotlight, our telco specialist Makeda Antoine will present a successful SMS firewall (sGate) implementation, with positive results and benefits for a large network spanning several years. To meet our team in Morocco, and discuss security and monetisation in the A2P SMS space of today, get in touch now. You’ll find them at the exhibition table No 1.Finally, 19-22 October we’re exhibiting at WAS Networking and Information Sharing event in Bangkok, Thailand, taking place on the 4th floor of the Intercontinental Conference Centre. Schedule your meeting with our team at the Pinnacle Hall – looking forward to seeing you there!

Join us for a huge Hackathon in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina this October! Individual coders and teams are equally welcome to apply and submit their project that will compete with all the others. The best project will win, but the key goal is to have fun hacking away!

Following two very successful Hackathons recently held in our R&D centres in Zagreb and Belgrade, the third one will take place at Infobip’s Sarajevo office (another office of great developers!) and will be open to the public.

Individual coders and teams are equally welcome to apply and submit their project that will compete with all the others in the Infobip Hackathon. The best project will win, but the key goal is to have fun hacking away.

Applications are open until 30 September, and the event itself will take place 16-18 October in our Sarajevo offices.

With developers at the core of our company, each hackathon is a platform for them to meet, exchange ideas and work on exciting projects.

We hope to see you there!

Dev Days 2015: Infobip development

Director of Marketing EMEA

Zoha Tapia

Director of Marketing EMEA

A global platform with 2 billion monthly transactions, geo-redundant infrastructure, connectivity to 800+ networks – all made possible by a veritable army of developers and technicians, working 24/7 to ensure peak efficiency, each and every minute, 365 days a year. Dev Days are the best forum to spark innovation and rethink the ever-evolving process of building great messaging technologies for clients around the world.

Organising Dev Days 2015 included a lot of talks, even more than organising such an event usually requires. Our plan was for the conference to be meaningful, provide real insight and share knowledge that can make a difference to businesses and developers.

For instance, Java is always on the menu at Infobip, but the focus should be on offering first-hand experiences in how agile development results in creating better products. As one of the powerhouses of the regional and global  IT industry, we felt that our experiences, struggles and insight perfectly position us to showcase all what it takes to build technologies that solve real problems for clients. This was something to make this Dev Days unique and bring real value to the conference.

So, for the 5thyear in a row, our over 130 in-house developers, network admins and database specialists from 5 R&D centres spent the three days in conferences and workshops. The eclectic agenda covered every aspect of developer work at Infobip, but for a full experiences, we needed more.

The final number of developers attending reached an impressive 270 on Dev Days Open Day, when we could put finally put our plan in motion and it worked like a charm. The Open Day featured keynotes by Infobip lecturers, as well as a fully-stacked international lineup of programmers, coders, machine learning and soft skills presenters – names like Markus Winand, Jan Šnajder and Danilo Goliani engage the audience with SQL indexing conundrums, predictive learning models and interpersonal skills development.

The lineup was carefully crafted to bring the most to everyone in the audience. While Mr. Winand’s SQL lectures provided hands-on and immediately applicable advice, Mr. Šnajder’s machine learning provided a high-level overview of the practices and the trends in this increasingly important field.

It might not seem so at first, but Mr. Goliani’s lecture on interpersonal effectiveness actually had a lot in common with our own experiences with scrum agile methodology. To keep things in perspective and maintain efficiency, sometimes you need to say no, and sometimes it’s the hardest thing to do – and learn.

So, from Java and OOP best practices, web development and UX, to SQL, databases, internal tools and agile development – we’re proud to say that this year’s Infobip-hosted Dev Days were an inspiration to both young and experienced developers from the entire region! Thanks for being with us at the conference, and looking forward to seeing you next year!
